Introduction
The Language Unit at SANASA Campus is dedicated to enhancing the English language skills of undergraduate students and community members. With a focus on practical communication and academic success, the unit plays a vital role in supporting students enrolled in Banking & Finance, Regional Science & Planning, and Insurance & Risk Management degree programs.

Beyond undergraduate support, the unit also offers diplomas and certificates to develop confident, fluent English speakers, opening doors to better education and career opportunities.

Key Activities
The Language Unit engages students through dynamic, practical, and enjoyable activities that support language learning beyond the classroom:

  • English Club
    An interactive, student-led forum to build confidence in speaking and teamwork through informal conversations and presentations.
  • Regular Meetings
    Group discussions, vocabulary games, and peer activities to reinforce classroom learning in a collaborative setting.
  • Film Festivals
    Screening and discussion of English-language films to strengthen listening and comprehension skills in a fun and cultural context.
  • Debate Competitions
    Encouraging analytical thinking, structured argumentation, and public speaking in English.
  • Drama Competitions
    Creative expression through theatre to improve pronunciation, fluency, and emotional articulation.

Courses Offered

The Language Unit provides a structured pathway for learners at different proficiency levels:

  1. Certificate in English Language (CEL)
    A beginner-level program focused on basic grammar, vocabulary, and communication.
  2. Advanced Certificate in English Language (ACEL)
    A higher-level course for students who want to enhance their fluency.
  3. Diploma in English Language (DEL)
    A comprehensive and advanced program for learners who aim to master English for academic, professional, and global communication.

All internal degree students must complete the Advanced Certificate in English (ACEL) before graduating.

Placement Test
All new students are required to take a placement test to assess their current language skills. Based on their results, students are placed in beginner, intermediate, or advanced courses to ensure the most effective learning experience.

Dual Certificate Course: Digital Skills & English Communication
Offered in collaboration with the IT Unit at SANASA Campus, this innovative course combines two critical competencies:

  • English communication
  • Digital literacy

Designed For:

  • School leavers (O/L qualified)
  • Job seekers and professionals needing both IT and language proficiency

This dual certificate enhances employability and prepares learners for a competitive workplace.
