Department of Regional Science and Planning offers four-year Honors degree, BSc (Hons) in Regional Science & Planning for those seeking a tertiary qualification in development studies and planning.
The BSc (Hons) Regional Science and Planning combines the study Geography, Economics, Planning and GIS by focusing on the spatial implications of development and the economic implications of social processes Geographic, Spatial and Economic issues dominate the news and shape the world. Many public and private sector development measures affect space. Particularly, large-scale infrastructure projects such as dams, power plants, roads, railway lines, new cities or new urban quarters are rightfully often seen as characteristics of a modern and prospering state. In fact, any planning scheme and any public measure with regard to space also affects regional social systems, the regional economy and the complex interplay of a region’s natural factors, its regional ecology. Therefore, a regional planning approach needs to analyze and consider these influencing factors when it comes to non-sectorial and coordinative planning on the local, regional, and international level.
This programme puts a special emphasis on participatory development, spatial planning, and green technologies oriented. It teaches students to extend the traditional view of development cooperation, which is centered around the notion of poverty, to the notion of vulnerability.
